HOMEWARD
© 2011 by David Llewellyn
And long the wake, and long the sail
And long this ache unsated
And though it’s company’s held me firm
Too many days you’ve waited . . .
For my return hath been too long
Too many months this journey
Pray God to send the Devil’s blow
To speededly return me . . To you
But time has come, and time to see
If times have changed unbidden
And passions, hot as blacksmith’s steel
Are cooled, and sadly dimming . . .
One look will tell, one look dead square
And all my fears true answered
Oh is that love beneath those tears?
Should I be headed HOMEWARD? . . To you
Bridge
But looking out across those stars
I can but see, your smile, your grace
And surely then, beyond all doubt
This love is not misplaced . . .
So sleep my friend and dream this night
Of cockle shells and driftwood
For soon I too, will drift ashore
For I am headed HOMEWARD . . . . . . . To you
Inst. Bridge . . .
So God, pray send the Devil’s blow
That I may wake up next . . To you
